What family members are permitted to work in the business? Who will run the company once Mom or Dad retires?
Ownership
Who gets to own and who doesn't? How many shares can a family member own and how much power will ownership give to a particular individual?
Favoritism
The feeling that one family member recieves all of the attention or the feeling of being shortchanged.
Fairness
Family members want to be treated fairly, although their views of fairness may differ. The matter of compensation amongst siblings offers a classic example. One may feel that fairness means all receive equal pay and another may believe that fairness means compensation is based on merit.
The Need for Parental Love
When a child does not feel loved and recognized by their parents, this can cause serious unhappiness and feelings of inadequacy.
