Christina needs to speak to her mother and admit she is frustrated and did not enjoy their earlier interaction but wants to find a solution.

Christina and her mother should have a planned conversation together. Each needs to listen to the other perspective and try to imagine the other's point of view.

Christina needs to be specific, "I don't feel like you took my business proposition about Mr. Pastry Inc seriously.", rather than being general, "You don't listen to me!"

By remaining respectful and letting each other speak, trust will grow within the conversation. Additionally, they should accept emotion when speaking about sensitive issues like retirement or a sense of leadership in the business.

Christina and her mother should reflect on the underlying issue. Perhaps the family does not communicate enough about strategic business decisions, maybe the children have never been involved in the financial aspect of the business.

Christina and her mother have to remember that they have a lot in common. They both want the family business to succeed, family harmony and to enjoy their day-to-day responsibilities both at home and in the work place.

There are many solutions that Christina and her mother can initiate together. Giving Christina and her brother more responsibility in a certain division of the usiness, spearheading a new project, or sharing a long-term plan together are only a few.
