Let’s talk about coaching. A coach is a person who guides another person to grow and develop, who does not have active control over that person.

The coach needs to begin by listening to the intrapreneur, as they define their ideas and their vision for the future.

Then, without taking a position, ask questions about goals and interests of the intrapreneur. This will allow the rising gen to create a detailed outline to take back to the coach.

At this point, the key role of the coach is to support, while the intrapreneur prepares to present the plan. During the preparation, the coach can suggest tasks and metrics for guidance, and the intrapreneur needs to be asking for feedback and advice.

Once a plan has been formulated, the coach and intrapreneur need to set measurable goals, and lay out the next steps together. The coach will set a clear schedule for learning and development, and it is up to the intrapreneur to follow them, and check in regularly with the coach.

Remember, a person can benefit from having more than one coach, and the person in the coaching role can change over time.
