Published: Apr 14, 2025

OTTAWA, ONTARIO — It is with profound sadness and deep gratitude that the Family Enterprise Foundation mourns the passing of Philippe II de Gaspé Beaubien, a visionary leader, cherished family man and devoted philanthropist, who left us peacefully at the age of 97 on April 9th, 2025.

Philippe’s life was a testament to extraordinary vision, boundless generosity and unwavering dedication to family, community and enterprise. Philippe built an enduring legacy rooted in love, respect and shared purpose with his beloved wife Nan-B, their children and the treasured generations that followed.

Recognized as a pioneering figure in family enterprise, Philippe co-founded the Business Families Foundation with his wife Nan-B in 1990, deeply believing in the transformative power of shared experiences. His wisdom and openness about the joys, challenges and sometimes difficult lessons learned in family business illuminated the path for countless others. Philippe passionately advocated for unity, emotional strength and mutual support as cornerstones for thriving family enterprises.

His business accomplishments were no less remarkable. As director of operations for Montreal’s Expo 67, Philippe’s visionary leadership turned the World’s Fair into an international phenomenon, leaving an indelible mark on the history of Montreal, Quebec and Canada. Following this achievement, he founded Télémédia in 1968, cultivating it into a significant media enterprise that shaped Canada’s cultural landscape with influential publications and broadcast networks.

Philippe wasn’t just a visionary; he was an extraordinary human being,” said Oliver de Richoufftz, Secretary General, Family Enterprise Foundation. “Alongside Nan-b, he elevated collective intelligence, compassion and the pursuit of lifelong learning to unprecedented heights. This was possible because of their unwavering faith in people and their shared ability to love, uplift and create positive change. They called it the ‘Power of Two’.

Throughout his life, Philippe demonstrated an unwavering commitment to philanthropy, driven by his belief in the power of community and the imperative of giving back. His contributions, particularly in supporting family businesses and sustainable enterprises, reflect his deep sense of social responsibility.

Margaret-Jean Mannix, Chair of the Family Enterprise Foundation, said, “Above all, Philippe will be remembered for his immense heart, profound spirituality, devotion to family and family enterprise. His life, rich with purpose and guided by values of integrity, compassion and generosity, will continue to inspire us always.

The Family Enterprise Foundation extends heartfelt condolences to Philippe’s beloved wife Nan-B, their children, grandchildren and the entire de Gaspé Beaubien family. His legacy of love, leadership and community spirit will forever endure.
