Important announcement regarding our response to COVID-19

Published: Mar 16, 2020

OAKVILLE, ON – March 16, 2020 – Based on the recommendations from public health authorities, FEC has decided to cancel and/or postpone a number of our in-person events through April 31, as well as Symposium 2020, May 25-27. We are monitoring the COVID-19 situation closely and want to reassure our community that our top priority is the safety and security of our members, guests, speakers and our team.

Symposium 2020 – Vancouver, May 25-27
Based on the recommendations from public health authorities to restrict large gatherings, we have decided to cancel Symposium 2020. We believe the program line up for May was exceptional and therefore we will be exploring ways to bring some of the content, speakers and workshops to our members in the coming months, where appropriate, through online formats such as webinars or live streaming.

Given the special circumstances underlying this decision, we will be modifying our Symposium cancellation policy and will provide full credit or refund for all participants who registered and paid for Symposium. We will connect with you in the next 30 days regarding processing credits and refunds.

FEA Program
We are postponing the Business Boards & Family Councils module scheduled for March 30-31 in Toronto. We will be rescheduling this module for this Fall and will communicate further details directly with the Program participants.

Given the ongoing uncertainty, we will continue to monitor things closely and evaluate the situation module by module and keep all Program participants informed if it becomes necessary for any further postponement to the May and June modules for Vancouver and Toronto. Where possible, we commit to providing participants 30 days notice if any changes in scheduling is required.

Family Enterprise of the Year Award (FEYA) Celebrations and other in-person events
FEYA celebrations (2 dinners, 1 luncheon) scheduled for later in March and early April have been cancelled. Please stay tuned for announcements and plans for celebrating our finalists and winners. We will also adjust our cancellation policy for these events and provide refunds for ticket purchases to date. These will be processed in the next 30 days as well.

With regard to other in-person events scheduled across the country, we will continue to monitor the situation closely and make decisions on postponement or cancellation on a case by case basis.

Personal Advisory Groups (P.A.G) Meetings
Most P.A.Gs from across the country meet on a monthly basis. We believe decisions on postponing or cancelling scheduled P.A.G meetings are best taken by each group considering circumstances specific to the location and individuals involved. Groups may want to consider using technology for upcoming meetings rather than getting together in person. We will be issuing specific guidance to our P.A.G members in a separate communication.

We understand that this is a rapidly evolving situation, so we will continue to monitor official guidance closely and evaluate our programming and policies over the next days and weeks, making changes when appropriate.
